The Char Dham
The Char Dham in hinduism is the set of four pilgrimage sites in India. They include Puri in the east, Rameshwaram in the south, Dwaraka in the west and Bhadrinath in the north. Travelling in a clockwise direction, starting from Puri, this is believed to be a path to moksha (salvation). It is said that Narayan travels to these four places everyday for his day-to-day affairs. He starts from south with his snan (bath) at Rameshwaram, goes west to Dwaraka for his shringar (to get ready for the day), then east towards Puri for his bhog (food) and ends his day in Bhadrinath for his dhyaan (meditation). It is said that without Hari (Vishnu) , Hara (Shiva) doesn't exist and vice-versa. So, it makes sense that these four places have shrines dedicated to both Vishnu and Shiva.
