The Char Dham

The Char Dham in hinduism is the set of four pilgrimage sites in India. They include Puri in the east, Rameshwaram in the south, Dwaraka in the west and Bhadrinath in the north. Travelling in a clockwise direction, starting from Puri, this is believed to be a path to moksha (salvation). 

It is said that Narayan travels to these four places everyday for his day-to-day affairs. He starts from south with his snan (bath) at Rameshwaram, goes west to Dwaraka for his shringar (to get ready for the day), then east towards Puri for his bhog (food) and ends his day in Bhadrinath for his dhyaan (meditation).

It is said that without Hari (Vishnu), Hara (Shiva) doesn't exist and vice-versa. So, it makes sense that these four places have shrines dedicated to both Vishnu and Shiva.

• Lord Jagannatha temple - Where Jagannatha is worshipped with his brother Balabadhra and sister Subhadra. 
• Lingeshwara temple.
• Bhadrinath
• Bhadrinath for Vishnu worship.
• Kedarnath for Shiva worship.
• Rameshwaram
• Ram-Setu - Built by Ram in the Treta Yuga to rescue Sita from Sri Lanka. 
• Ramanathaswamy temple - Dedicated to Shiva and believed to have been consecrated by Ram. Considered to be one of the Jyotirlinga. 
• Dwaraka
• Dwaraka - The dwelling place of Krishna. 
• Somnath - One of the Jyotirlinga sites of Shiva.
